For about the past week or so, Brinlee has been coughing - just a little, not enough for me to worry. She would cough once or twice and then get the biggest grin. I just figured she was figuring out a way to get my attention. WRONG! By Thursday, she was coughing a little more and by Friday night, I was worried. She was coughing more, and sneezing more than normal, and she was still throwing up some, too, to add to my worry. She had thrown up a couple of times Wednesday and Thursday, but I was told that could be a side effect of her shots. When she threw up Friday night, there was a lot of mucus in the burp cloth, so I decided to call the doctor first thing Saturday morning. Thankfully her pedi's office is open on Saturdays, so I called the minute they were open. I talked to the nurse and told her what was going on, and she said that it would be best for Brinlee to come in as they had seen a few cases of RSV that week. Thanks for making me freak out even more....I, of course, had to get on the Internet and google RSV - what it was, the symptoms, how to take care of it, etc. From what I found, it wasn't anything too serious, but could be very dangerous in infants. Great.
So off to the doctor we went. She cried the whole way, and while we were waiting to get in, she just sat in her car seat and whimpered. She looked so sad! It was breaking my heart. We got back pretty quick and met with the doctor. Come to find out, she just has a little cold!! The worst part about it was hearing there was nothing I could really do, and that it could last for up to 2-3 weeks!! Lord, I hope not!
**On a side note, the doctor we saw is the one who blew me off when I told him something wasn't right with B, and he told me to go on the "Jesus diet". When he asked if she was doing better, and if I followed his advice, I said yes, she was doing great, and no, that I hadn't really followed his advice. I took just dairy out of my diet, and didn't really see a difference. I also told him that I had gotten her adjusted by my chiropractor, and that she was a completely different, HAPPY baby, showing no colic symptoms. The look on his face was priceless. Took everything I had not to giggle :)
Back to yesterday...Brinlee was okay for the most part during the day, fussing here and there. I knew she wasn't feeling good, but she was such a trooper! She would grin at me with snot running out of her nose and red eyes. By about 6:00 or so, the happy baby was gone. She cried (and screamed) off and on for almost 2 hours. I felt so helpless, and wanted to take her pain away. I just wished I was the one who was sick! I hate seeing her hurt. Jared took her back to her room and rocked her and read to her. It worked because she finally fell asleep! I went to Walgreens and got some saline solution for her nose and Baby Vicks to rub on her feet. She woke up around 12:15, ate and then decided she wanted to stay up for a couple of hours and play! It was 2:45 before I finally put her back down. She was fighting sleep! She got back up around 6:30 and was back down around 7:30. For now, she seems to be feeling better. I suppose we'll find out later how she's really doing!!
